! Adding moving averages to your charts

Quickly apply the most commonly used moving averages to your charts. 

This article will walk you through adding moving averages to your charts in the most popular platforms so you can achieve a similar setup to our traders.

Each member of our team has their own preferences for which and how many moving averages they like to have applied to certain charts. While everyone has different setups they like to use, this article will cover the basics of adding and configuring these moving averages on your platform. 

Lets go through each of the platforms and add the 8, 21, 34, 55, 200 period moving averages to get you started. Each is not required but this should you to understand the process. 

Moving Average (Exponential) Color Specifications: 

8 period - Yellow

21 period - White

34 period - Magenta

55 period - Cyan

200 period - Red

Adding Moving Averages in Thinkorswim (TOS)

From the Edit Studies window, you will want to add the 5 main moving averages to your chart via the steps below. 

Change the settings for each by selecting the gear icon to the right of the name.

When editing the indicator settings from the gear, you are only going to change the length and the color. 

Once you have done this for each of the 5 main moving averages, you are all set. You can now click OK and exit back to your chart. 

Adding Moving Averages in Tradestation (TS)

From the Insert Analysis Technique window, you will want to add the 5 main Mov Avg Exponential to your chart via the steps below. 

Each time you add Mov Avg Exponential to your chart you will update the Input and Color

You should be all set once you have added the 5 main Mov Avg Exponential 's  to your chart. 

Adding Moving Averages in Ninja Trader (NT)

In order to add the moving averages to your charts in Ninja Trader, you will need to right click on the chart and select Indicators...

From the Indicators window, you will want to add 5 EMA indicators which are Exponential Moving Averages, then you will customize them to your preferences. 

The settings for each are as follows...

Once you have all of the Parameters set you are finished and can Apply these settings to your chart then click OK.  

Adding Moving Averages in Trading View (TV) 

Adding indicators in Trading View is quick as easy. Simply open the Indicators menu, either by right clicking on the background or from the menu button at the top of the screen. 

From the Indicators window you can add your 5 (3 for the free version) Moving Average Exponentials. 

By clicking on the down arrow, you can Format the indicator settings. It is these settings you will change to set the Moving Averages up correctly.
